This week, I focused mainly on my interview skills to prepare for the upcoming business symposium. I have not had much experience with interviews, so this process of practicing interviews with my peers and working on preparing answers has been beneficial for me. Through my journey in ISM, I am determined to develop these interview skills, as it will be a very important part of my professional life, even if not directly related to psychiatry. I will admit that I did struggle in composing myself during the beginning of practicing interviews, but as I went over my questions more I have felt much more confident than before and comfortable with interviewing. As I go into next week, my main goal for interviewing is to work on maintaining eye contact, as I tend to look away from the interviewer when I am speaking, ensuring that I inflect my voice well, and slowing down how fast I talk, so my words are understandable.
I have started doing a psychology course on Coursera to expand my knowledge of general psychology, in which I have been working on the Development and Language unit. I find this unit fascinating because language is such a cornerstone aspect of civilization that has developed rapidly throughout history. I think it is incredible, and a testament to the brilliance of human society, that there are around 6,500 languages that are spoken globally. A question that I found myself constantly pondering on was how languages will develop over the next 100 years? We already know how much language has changed, so in a time where communication has become popular through phones and social media, it will be interesting to see how languages like English or Spanish might change and adapt to these new times.
