I felt that this week was very productive at the beginning and slowly slowed down as the week went on. I thought that my Original Work was due around the middle of April, so I was really dedicated to getting my research paper done, completing a large portion of the paper. I have been able to get through the introduction and common mental illnesses in India. It felt great to go through my research again and summarize it up in my paper. However, I struggled a bit with phrasing and trying to write with the most sophistication that I can, but it is a challenge I have been facing with excitement. Around halfway through the week, I found out that OW is due later than April, at the beginning of May, which caused me to slow down on my progress. However, I feel good for next week and hope to complete my paper in order to get it reviewed by my English teacher and others, so I can publish my final draft in time for Final Presentation Night! I have also been able to almost fully complete my pamphlet and am excited to hopefully share it with friends and family in India!
Besides this, I had my bi-weekly mentor meeting with Dr. Uddin and have grown to love our conversations, as he gives me a very down-to-earth perspective on the life of a psychiatrist. I was able to learn about how imaging, like brain scans, can be effective in ruling out mental conditions and about how psychiatrists deal with substance abuse. With OW almost being done, I have been able to do a bit more research on other topics regarding psychiatry and can’t wait to ask Dr. Uddin the questions I have in our next meeting in two weeks!
