Coming off the break, I felt replenished and ready to start the new semester and the New Year! I have started thinking of S.M.A.R.T Goals for myself and I feel that these will be very beneficial for me. Having a clear-cut goal that I can measure, instead of being very vague, allows me to stay on par with my goals. One quote from Bill Gates that I always think about is that “Most people overestimate what they can do in one year and underestimate what they can do in ten years.” These S.M.A.R.T goals are reasonable enough that I can complete them over a year but are stepping stones, which are checkpoints onto my even bigger goals, which can seem very daunting. One of the goals that I have for myself is that I want to sleep for at least 8 hours on no less than 5 days a week. I have had trouble this year with having the discipline to sleep on time and this has caused me to wake up late and not be as productive as I wish I could be. By working towards this goal, I can maintain a healthier lifestyle and ensure that I am getting the sleep that is detrimental to my performance in school and my energy levels in general.
Along with this, I have started researching my original work and I am excited about the many ideas that I could implement. I was able to learn about the role of psychiatry in India from a very distinguished psychiatrist in India in an article. I love being able to hear from the point of view of someone who is in the career field and the many unique experiences they have had. Furthermore, the fact he is practicing in India has given me more insight into how to approach my original work. I know that I will have my work cut out for me but I have worked on creating a schedule for working on the project and I cannot wait to see how my original work turns out!
